Factory worker who put rubber gloves and metal ring in food supplied to Nando’s is jailed!

In a recent incident, a factory worker named Garry Jones has been sentenced to over three years in prison for tampering with food meant for Nando’s restaurants. Jones contaminated various products, including hummus and salad dressings, with items like rubber gloves, plastic bags, and metal ring pulls while working at Harvey & Brockless Fine Food Company in Worcestershire.

The company, based in Evesham, supplies a range of food items, including sauces and dips, to restaurants across the country, including Nando’s and the Ivy Group.

Jones, 38, was working the late shift as a factory worker and was responsible for gathering ingredients for the next day’s cooking. CCTV footage captured him tampering with food products, even mixing an unknown substance into raw ingredients when he was alone.

He was arrested in November of the previous year and admitted to tampering with restaurant-bound products and a separate burglary charge.

This disturbing case raised concerns about food safety, potentially endangering customers, and tarnishing the company’s reputation. The deliberate contamination of food products not only cost the company financially but also posed a significant threat to public health.

It’s a reminder that food safety starts with people. While there may be extensive processes and documentation in place, if individuals are not practicing food safety, it can lead to such issues.
